This thermometer is helpful in determining if your oven is accurate. It’s clear and easy to read. When I first used it in the oven and the oven was cooling down, it made some click/cracking noises, and I thought it broke. But it still works fine; must have just been adjusting to the cooling temps.

I bought this oven thermometer because it was cheap enough and had a lot of good reviews. Unfortunately, after a couple months of living in my oven, it just kind of…died? I found that no matter how hot my oven got, the dial never went higher than 400 degrees. Then one day, the dial went all the way over to 45o degrees and stayed there. Even when I put the thermometer in the freezer, it still read 450.

Not sure what happened, and I’m not sure if this was my fault or the thermometer’s, but I’ll be buying a different oven thermometer from now on.

Oregon Scientific Talking Wireless BBQ/Oven Thermometer – Red/ Black CustomerReview

This is the model AW131 Oregon Scientific Talking Wireless BBQ/Oven Thermometer. After I received the unit I did have a problem with the transmitter and the main unit communicating with each other. Went to the Oregon Scientific site and checked the online manual for the their other version of the wireless thermometer which is the AW129. Sure enough it stated on that manual that during the reset operation of the main remote and the transmitter that it had to be done in less than 60 seconds. No such note listed in the AW131 manual. Went back and reset both units within 60 seconds and no more problem. I do a lot of smoking and BBQ and this is the perfect way to either use on the smoker or when using the BBQ. If they would have had the notice about the 60 second limitation during the reset operation in their manual I would have given this thermometer 5 stars.

Taylor 503 Connoisseur Oven Thermometer CustomerReview

I bought this because I had a sneaky suspicion my oven wasn’t working the way it should. Sure enough, it beeps to say it’s preheated to 350, but it’s really still at 250. And all this time I just thought my oven preheated super fast! So, that said, after waiting for a while, I see that my oven really is calibrated just fine (after a while, the temp rises to 350 and stays steady at that temperature). So, I just need to wait before I put stuff in the oven. I would never have known this without this nifty thermometer!

My only problem is that I have yet to figure out a way to put the thermometer in there and keep it out of the way and yet still be able to read the face. I think I just need to keep playing with this to find something that works for me. I cook daily and often use both racks, so I am probably in a different place than most people.

My oven is a Maytag. I’ve had nothing but trouble with it since I bought it three years ago. It is an inferior product and is apparently a subsidiary of Whirlpool. The temperature never seemed quite right and the cheap little thermometer I bought at Target just didn’t do the trick. This thrmometer is accurate and I’ve finally been able to figure out my oven’s temp. and the fact that it gradually wanders up to ten degress above the temp I set. I highly recommend this item.

While ‘Product features’ leads you to believe that this thermometer is good to go up to 600 degrees, the item package carries a lengthy warning. To summarize: prolonged use over 440…could lead to cracking…remove thermometer if used at these temps. However it has a lifetime warranty! It must lead to an interesting round robin of the promised ‘repair of replace at our option’ between consumer and manufacturer. Why would you not want to confirm oven temps above 440? Since I bake bread and pizza etc the face plate of my thermometer seems to be crisping. Why just claim 150/600 degrees but not mean it? Why not make an adequate product?

You could do better (I think) – G. Humphrey –
This Taylor thermometer may (or may not) register the correct temperature of your oven — who can say? It differs from my GE oven setting by about 10-20 degrees (oven higher) from 300 to 400 degree settings. So it may be accurate (or the oven may be — I haven’t tried a third “tie breaker” thermometer). But the aggravating thing about this item is that it changes temperature so slowly that it becomes, in practice, almost useless. When the oven says it has reached 400 degrees, the Taylor reads just over 300 degrees. The same, of course, is true when the oven is set at other temperatures. (The Taylor eventually catches up, long after you needed it). When lowering the temperature to 325 (say) from 400, the Taylor can lag by a half-hour or more of the oven’s own claim. Thus, if you want a fast reaction time (and you should), you might want to buy another brand. Note that the thermometer is quite wide, which is good, making it fairly easily readable from outside. But that means it takes up precious room on the shelf, which can be unacceptable when using large pans on the same shelf as the one upon which the thermometer is placed.
